Meet The Team


Alexander Chiu, MD, MBA

CEO And Founder

Dr. Chiu founded Ross Medical in 2008 and developed the RMM™ and COTTER™ technology and its intellectual property. He is responsible for coordinating the research team, regulatory specialists, business development, software development, fundraising, clinical trials, and forward movement of the company. In addition, he is the Founder and Executive Director of the not-for-profit organization The Ross Health Foundation, a group of doctors and logisticians dedicated to the fundraising and implementation efforts for international medical missions. Previously, he designed robotics at the Stanford Genome Technology Center for high throughput gene deletion and was a synthetic chemist at Celera designing anti-cancer drugs. He received an MD from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, NY, an MBA from the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business, and a BS in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He completed his Emergency Medicine specialty training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, University Hospital, a Level 1 trauma and cardiac center.

Michael Kasper, MD

Acting Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Kasper joined the Ross Medical team as an independent consultant in 2009 and is responsible for medical operations, development, and clinical research. Dr. Kasper received his MD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and completed his internal medicine residency at New York University Medical Center. He continued his training in Cardiology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and is currently practicing internal medicine and general cardiology. Dr. Kasper is published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the Journal of Cardiac Failure, the Journal of Invasive Cardiology, the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, the European Journal of Heart Failure and has presented at the American Heart Association scientific sessions and the American College of Cardiology Annual Scientific Sessions.

Mark A. Merlin, DO, EMT-P, FACEP

Chairman Of The Medical Board

Dr. Merlin is an Associate Professor at Rutgers School of Public Health/Rutgers Medical School and trained in Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine. He is the immediate past Chair of the New Jersey MICU Advisory Board for the Department of Health, providing policy and procedures for all state paramedic units. Dr. Merlin is the principal investigator in multiple research and grant projects and has authored over fifty-five peer-reviewed abstracts and manuscripts. He is an NIH funded investigator with over 1.4 million dollars of grant funding. Currently, he is the medical director of the NJ EMS/Disaster Medicine Task Force providing disaster response for the state of NJ. He is the medical director of MONOC which is the largest EMS system in NJ providing 911 services to 3 million people. Additionally he is on the board of directors for the American Heart Association and on the Executive Committee for Mission Lifeline creating protocols for heart attack/stroke care in New Jersey’s hospitals. Dr. Merlin is the Chair of NJ Homeland Security for Healthcare and Public Health.

Alexander Fahrenbach, MBA

Operations And Technology

Mr. Fahrenbach joined Ross Medical as an independent consultant in 2008 with the original technology concept. He is responsible for the current technology development and deployment of the COTTER™ platform as well as developing all software training modules. Previously, he developed billing systems with Epic Systems electronic medical records including special modules for the Center for Medicare Medicaid Services and New York University Hospital. He received a BS in computer engineering from Brigham Young University and completed an MBA from Brigham Young University with an emphasis in supply chain and logistics.

Eric Frederick

Reimbursement And Regulatory Affairs

Mr. Frederick has been an independent consultant with Ross Medical since 2010, assisting in the early rounds of capital acquisition and intellectual property issues. He is responsible for reimbursement protocols, procedures, and enforcement in connection with the COTTER™ technology and in regulatory affairs; he is currently consulting on the design and implementation of Ross Medical’s regulatory compliance strategy. He will be responsible for monitoring the Company’s regulatory practices and ensuring that all inventions of the Company comply with regulatory requirements. Mr. Frederick has worked in the public finance sector for over six years and holds a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of California, Davis, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics/Mathematics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

John Graff, PH.D.

Dr. Graff is currently the Associate Director for Research of the New Jersey SEER Registry and former Director of Cancer Surveillance Research for the Detroit SEER Registry, he has the knowledge and expertise in conducting the leadership and operation of this type of work, having overseen the cohort recruitment and retention, data collection, and data quality operations of numerous similar SEER registry-based studies of cancer prevention, etiology, treatment and outcomes. He is responsible for epidemiological research and managing the Ross Medical Registry of patients.

Preeti Jois, MD

Dr. Jois joins Ross Medical as the Chief Research and Medical Operations independent consultant. She is the current Medical Director of the Chest Pain Evaluation Center and assistant professor of emergency medicine at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. Dr. Jois completed her undergraduate work at the University of Florida and is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Medicine. After a residency in emergency medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Dr. Jois completed a fellowship focusing specifically on cardiovascular emergencies at the Cleveland Clinic emergency medicine department. A diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Jois joined the UF College of Medicine faculty in 2008. She has led the UF Code Blue Committee since 2009 and has authored several papers and studies related to cardiovascular emergencies. In 2010, she received the College of Medicine’s Exemplary Teacher Award.

Adrian Padilla, MD

Dr. Padilla is board certified Internist. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Texas where he received a degree in Health Sciences. After college, Dr.Padilla pursed his doctorate of medicine by participating in the fifth pathway program provided by the Universidad Autonoma De Guadalajara in conjunction with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Padilla completed his residency in internal medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Currently Dr. Padilla holds two positions at two different organizations as a Hospitalist and an Associate Program Director.

Benjamin A. Busch, DO, FACOEP

Dr. Busch is a Board Certified Emergency Physician and a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians who is currently working clinically in Colorado. He graduated with Honors from Michigan State University Lyman Briggs School with a BS in Biochemistry and continued medical studies at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. After completing an Emergency Medicine residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, he worked for Kaiser Permanent in the San Francisco Bay Area and has been a clinical instructor and academic lecturer for the University of California San Francisco, Alameda County Medical Center (Highland General) and University of Colorado Emergency Medicine Residency Programs. Currently he is the Chief Medical Officer and co-founder of Health Media Services, a Health Information Technology company focused on developing meaningful patient engagement solutions to improve the experience, quality and cost-effectiveness of healthcare delivery. Dr. Busch is the Manager of Network Expansion and Special Projects and a Physician Member of the Medical Board at Ross Medical Corporation.

Sharon Piazza

Ms. Piazza joined Ross Medical in 2013. She is currently consulting on the setup of the eTech program and on policies and procedures for the company. Ms. Piazza has been in the Echocardiography field for 20 years and has held supervisory positions in the field. She has been employed by Saddle River Medical Group under Dr. Andrew Kasper and Dr. Michael Kasper for the past 19 years.

Laura Shumaker

Finance And Operations Manager

Ms. Shumaker joined Ross Medical in 2014. She is responsible for the financial modeling of the organization and assisting to build out the policy and procedures for the company. Ms. Shumaker has over two years of experience working in finance and accounting at start up organizations. Ms. Shumaker received a BS in Finance from Saint Joseph’s University.

Karen Iverson, RCS, MA

Ms. Iverson joined Ross Medical in 2014 and is responsible for overseeing the Specialist on Air program. She is a registered Echocardiographer and holds a BS in Microbiology and English from the University of New Hampshire and a MA in Science Education from Columbia University, Teacher’s College.

Aishat Adeniji MSN, FNP

Ms Adeniji joined Ross Medical in 2015 , as a Nursing Associate. She is Family Nurse Practitioner with over 5 years clinical experience as an RN. Ms Adeniji holds a BS in Nursing from Rutgers University School of Arts and Sciences and a MSN in Advance Practice Nursing from University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey.
